FAQs about Volunteering with BAYSAR

BAYSAR (North Bay Search and Rescue) is a volunteer organization dedicated to search and rescue missions, supporting Project Lifesaver, and promoting outdoor safety through AdventureSmart.

To become a volunteer, you can reach out to BAYSAR through their website or contact them directly for more information on the application process and requirements.

BAYSAR provides comprehensive training in search and rescue techniques, first aid (when available), navigation, and other essential skills to ensure volunteers are well-prepared for missions.

While specific qualifications may vary, a willingness to learn, a commitment to the cause, and a passion for helping others are key. Some roles may require additional certifications or experience.

Volunteers are expected to attend a monthly general meeting, which includes indoor or outdoor training sessions, except in July and December. Participation in Bingos is mandatory, and volunteers should also allocate time for various training exercises.

BAYSAR assists with Project Lifesaver by helping locate individuals with cognitive conditions who may wander. They also promote AdventureSmart by educating the public on outdoor safety and preparedness.

Volunteering with BAYSAR provides a sense of fulfillment, the opportunity to develop new skills, and the chance to make a positive impact in your community. It's also a great way to meet like-minded individuals.

BAYSAR's primary focus with air search is Project Lifesaver; however, we will respond if BAYSAR gets a call from the OPP or local emergency services for air support.

BAYSAR shares headquarters with CASARA North Bay.  Civil Air Search and Rescue Association Zone 8 CASARA North Bay responds to requests from the Canadian Forces Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Trenton, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), West Nipissing and the North Bay City Police forces.
