BAYSAR airborne electronic search skills shared with York Regional Police
Every minute counts when trying to find a missing, vulnerable person.
The average time to find a Project Lifesaver client is 30 minutes, but when ground searchers can’t pick up a signal right away, being able to search from an aircraft makes the system work even better.
Stan French, President of BAYSAR Air Search and Rescue in North Bay, provided airborne Project Lifesaver electronic search specialist training for three days to the York Regional Police.
The first video is our takeoff from Buttonville airport for the start of Project Lifesaver night training in the YRP helicopter, Air 2.
The second video was taken by Mike Wilson (Tom’s son) in Holland Landing. Mike had a Project Lifesaver transmitter for a night eval flight. When we found Mike (by homing in on the signal from the transmitter) we could see them on the video screen in the helicopter thanks to their FLIR (Forward Looking InfraRed) camera. To let them know we could see them, we ‘lit them up’ with the ‘zillion’ candle power spot light.
